As I've mentioned before in this post, a painting I made back in 2010 for my final degree show somehow caught a lot of attention and many people have got various versions as tattoos based off my drawing and the collection of them is ever-growing!
Some of these people contacted me and asked if they could use it (a big thank you to those people!), others got it done and then managed to track me down, some are unaware still of it's source and I just happened to stumble across the photos on tumblr.
Seen or own a tattoo based on my Alice drawing? Please contact me/ leave a comment!
I am so happy to have your art as my first tattoo. I have been asked many times where the original came from and happily pass on your name and link to this site. My tattoo artist done a fantastic job and added his own little flare to it. I can't stop looking at it. Thank you so much. Top left is my tattoo..:)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :) The tattoo artist did a fabulous job with it, i am glad that something that was inspired by my art makes you happy!

Still love this tattoo (mine is the last one) and everybody I met told me it's a beautiful picture :D
ReplyDeleteSo glad I found your work!

so I saw your tumbler account where you were angry at Disney for "stealing" your artwork...correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you "steal" a scene from their movie, Alice in Wonderland to create the artwork? Seems pretty equal to me...
ReplyDeleteI'm no law student or anything, but I believe there is a difference between creating an original piece using another piece as inspiration, and using an exact copy for profit, as Disney seems to have done with the cosmetic bag. I feel like intellectual property comes into play somewhere here....
DeleteI would agree. It isn't like the artist created a drawing of a screenshot from the film or something. This was an original piece of artwork that was stolen and is being used for somebody else's financial benefit.
DeleteAlice in Wonderland doesn't belong to Disney, Nat. Lewis Carroll created Alice in Wonderland and his work has long been in the public domain This specific artwork, however, is owned by Katie and Disney blatantly stole that.
DeleteDisney does not own Alice in Wonderland. Louis Carroll wrote the book in the 1800s and it passed into the public domain, so Disney made a movie based on it. Disney owns the movie and the movie alone. Not the idea of a blonde girl in a blue dress painting roses. None of what Katie did was even remotely wrong, but everything about what Disney did is shitty.
Deleteyou were talked about by a youtube celebrety! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObQbXc4pVpc&feature=share&list=UUOT2iLov0V7Re7ku_3UBtcQ
ReplyDeleteFound you! Here's my tattoo and thank you for your amazing work: http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_posts/2574683-ongoing-literary-tattoo-sleeve

ReplyDeletei also got this picture tattooed on my body. i hope you are oke with it. It is not finished yet, but when it is, i will send you a picture! Thanks for the great design!
ReplyDeletei already have one Alice in Wonderland themed tattoo on my leg, just done yesterday, and I wanted ot continue the theme on the other leg but couldn't find a fitting representation. I have seen this picture multiple times when i google search for a AIW theme tat and everytime I see it I am drawn more and more to it. I had no idea where it originated and in seeing this I am more convinced that I would love to have this piece depicted on my body. I would love your approval before I do so. I think the entire story of Alice speaks to so many of us in so many ways. To me it speaks to a certain level of "madness" that we all carry. Alice painting the roses would be a perfect piece to go on the other leg and draw together the entire theme. Your work is beautiful and I hope that I can be a part of portraying that to the world.... or at least the people I know.
ReplyDeleteHey Katie,
ReplyDeleteI'm a tattooist in Southampton and a customer has just sent me a copy of your pic and asked for it to be tattooed. I did a search on the pic (always my first action with this sort of thing, I hate that people don't get any credit in these situations) and found you - would it be ok to tattoo this? I haven't asked if they want any changes made yet because i wanted to check with you that it was ok to do first. If so, I will credit the design to you and put a link to your preferred account. Could you let me know via my facebook please? it's easier to keep track on there! My name is stewart goodbrand.
It's an awesome painting by the way, i hope you don't mind so many people taking it!!
